This man saved our bacon, literally. When we arrived at Rydal on Friday night we discovered we had no gas, so we had no way to cook our bacon. This man stepped up and saved our bacon with his gas cooker. I think the items below are yours. Thank you and please get in contact so I can return your items.

Lost

I have lost my walking shoes.  They were so new they didn’t even smell, yet. They were in a white plastic bag. I was one of the last to leave last night and I couldn’t find them. If you have accidentally picked them up, please let me know.

*Lost Buff* – Sarah Hartin
I unfortunately lost my Orange/Teal UTA buff today during the 6hr Paddy Pallin (I suspect near Control 61). I did go back in search for it, however with no luck. If you happened to have picked it up, please let me know. Thank you.

Description

Get ready! It’s that time of year again – the 61st Paddy Pallin rogaine will be based at Rydal and include parts of Lidsdale State Forest and Marrangaroo National Park. The event, as usual, is a 6 hour event from 9:00am to 3:00pm on Sunday 16th June.

This year the Paddy Pallin will be held in conjunction with a Navigation training day on the Saturday, with all entrants for the Nav day receiving concession entries to the PP so that they can practise their newly acquired skills.

Rydal is an interesting area and the surrounding forest is a great place for rogaining. It is mostly clear of troublesome undergrowth. There is an extensive track network.

The course is quite compact. With shorter distances between controls and relatively open terrain, with a good track network to use to re-orient if something goes wrong, it is an ideal location for novice and less experienced or occasional rogainers.  Experienced, competitive rogainers will have a reasonable chance of clearing the course – even given a couple of quite challenging controls just for them!

Camping will be available at Rydal showground from Fri afternoon to Sunday early evening. We’ve performed all the ritual sacrifices, so any inclement weather will not be the organisers’ fault! Even if you’re not doing the Nav exercise, come up for the Saturday as well and have a look around the area. Rydal has a small pub that offers weekend accommodation, though you will have to be quick off the mark. Lithgow and Bathurst are also within reasonable travelling distance if camping doesn’t appeal. The small arms factory museum at Lithgow is worth a visit and racing fans can head to Bathurst for a circuit of Mt Panorama – much scarier on the track than the TV makes it look.

There is no store or takeaway food available in Rydal, so the Sat evening meal and Sun breakfast combo is recommended. For coffee addicts, the caterers are bringing a coffee machine.
