Competition Catgeories

Age & Gender based Categories

For all NSWRA events, there are five age-based classes of competition:

  1. Open  (no age restriction)
  2. Under 23  (all team members must be under 23 years of age on the first day of competition)
  3. Veteran  (all team members must be 40 years of age or over on the first day of competition)
  4. Super Veteran  (all team members must be 55 years of age or over on the first day of competition)
  5. Ultra Veteran   (all team members must be 65 years of age or over on the first day of competition)

In addition, for all NSWRA events, there are three gender categories within the Open, Under 23, Veteran & Super Veteran age categories.  These are …

  1. Men  (all team members must be male)
  2. Women  (all team members must be female)
  3. Mixed  (teams must contain at least one female and one male)

The rules of rogaining specify that any team with a member under 14 must also include someone over 18.

Paddy Pallin 6-hour Rogaine

JUNIORS.  For the Paddy Pallin 6-hour, there is an additional age based category of “Junior”  in which all team members must be under 18 years of age on the first day of competition.  There are no gender categories within the junior age class.

SCOUTS.  If a team includes two or more members who are scouts or venturers, and they include their scout troop in the team name, then they are registered in the Scout competition.  Note that any team with a member under 14 must also include someone over 18, so a venturer team could compete on their own whereas a scout team would include at least one adult.

Family Category

NSWRA usually offers a “Family” category at events. The team members must include at least two members of the same family, who represent two generations. One must be a child under 18 years of age on the first day of competition.

Novice Category

Some events offer a Novice category where all team members must never have previously entered a rogaine.

Teams are deemed to compete in every category for which they are eligible.
