Event Overview

The Festival of Rogaining brings together navigators, endurance athletes, and adventure seekers for a weekend of strategy, exploration, and competition in the stunning wilderness of Mt Werong. Whether you’re aiming for a championship title, a personal challenge, or simply an unforgettable experience in the great outdoors, this event has something for everyone.

With 8-hour and 24-hour course options, your team will be charting your own path across rugged terrain, seeking out checkpoints, testing your navigation skills, and making strategic decisions under pressure. Whether you’re a seasoned rogainer or a newcomer looking for an exhilarating test of endurance, this is the event that defines rogaining in 2025.

This year’s festival promises:
✅ Championship racing – compete for titles regardless of how long you’re out on course.
✅ Scenic and challenging terrain – navigate through the vast landscapes of Mt Werong.
✅ Community and camaraderie – meet fellow adventurers, share stories, and take part in a sport that thrives on teamwork.
✅ Unparalleled strategy and endurance tests- your choices, your map, your mission.

Testing

Event duration

24-hour and 8-hour courses.

This is also the Intervarsity Champs

Note: There’s no 15-hour option, but entering the 24-hour doesn’t require staying out the full time. You can come back to the Hash House at any point, rest, eat, and still qualify for the championships regardless of your total time on the course.

Entering the 24-hour event doesn’t mean you have to stay out the whole time! You can return to the HH at any time for food (available from Saturday night), campfire, and sleep. This event choice means there is no limit to how long you are out on the course – just make it up as you go but ensure you are back by midday on Sunday! You can even sign up for the 24-hour event and only spend 8 hours out on the course – there is no minimum time, only a maximum time.

If you want a chance to be the 2024 NSW Rogaining Champions for your team category you’ll need to sign up to the 24-hour event.

Location

The event takes place in Mt Werong, situated within the westernmost section of Blue Mountains National Park.
  • Distance from Sydney: Approximately 3 hours (about 50 km south of Oberon).
  • Distance from Canberra: Roughly the same distance, making it a great opportunity for ACTRA rogainers to test themselves against NSW competitors.

Accessing the event site involves a scenic drive through national park roads, so we recommend checking road conditions in advance and allowing extra time for travel.

Accomodation

Hash House

  • The Hash House venue should be accessible all weekend. This will be confirmed in the final instructions
  • Long-drop toilet on site (newly installed).
  • Additional portaloos and a large drinking water tank to be hired.
  • Several fire pits available and likely to be used.

Camping

  • Camping is available Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights.
  • Camping fees are included in entry fee.

Nearby accommodation

  • Available in Taralga convenient for those traveling from Canberra.

Meals & Catering

The catering team is still being finalised, but the provisional plan is to provide:
  • Dinner on Saturday (8:00 PM) at the Hash House.
  • Lunch on Sunday (midday) for post-event recovery.
  • Snack and meal service available throughout the night by a small team of volunteers.
  • No all night cafe is planned, but may be added if volunteer numbers allow.

Safety Considerations

No major cliffs or damp terrain.
