Event overview

This year’s 35th Lake Macquarie rogaine will be our 250th official rogaine in NSW. The event also incorporates the 2026 NSW Rogaining Championships. Fittingly, this rogaine will feature a traditional 24-hour bush course, but it will also be supplemented by our ever-popular 6-hour and 15-in-24-hour options. Please note that you don’t need to be a ‘champion’ to enter this rogaine. Most of the map will incorporate the Olney and Watagan State Forests, only a 1hr 45min drive up the freeway from Sydney.

The course will feature a relatively level novice and family -friendly section that will dance through mature pines with an understory of wildflowers. There’ll be multitudes of tracks around the start location. You will see wallabies, wombats, bandicoots, and especially goannas everywhere. The longer event options will incorporate several awesome plummeting waterfalls, water junctions, gullies of towering blue gums and eucalypt forest, and deeply seated pockets of untouched remnant rainforest. You’ll be zigzagging areas of the Great North Walk.

There will be plenty of camping nearby on the Friday and Saturday nights (camping fees included in entry), and the easily accessible Hash House will have toilets and drinking water.

The entry fee covers dinner Saturday, breakfast and lunch Sunday, and of course the Lake Macquarie Tea and Damper! There will also be fun competitions on the side including guess the lollies in the jar and bonus points if you collect a specific trio of controls.

State Championships are awarded based on results in the 24 hour event only.

  • To be eligible for a State Championship, your team must be entered in the 24 hour event.
  • The 15-in-24 hour event is a separate, non-championship event. Regardless of scores or number of teams in a particular category, 15-in-24 hour teams are ineligible for the State Championships.
  • Entrants in the 15-in-24 hour event out on course for longer than 15.5 hours will be disqualified and are unable to swap to the 24 hour event.

Entry fees and inclusions

Entry fees for the event are $120 standard entry, $80 for concession and free for under 14. For more details see our entry fee policy.

There is a limit of 600 people in total entered across all three events. Entries will close when this limit is reached, or at 11.59pm Monday 20th July 2026 (whichever is sooner).

Accommodation & facilities

Hash House

  • 2wd access to the Hash House
  • Toilets
  • Drinking water

Camping

  • Friday and Saturday night
  • Camping fees are included in entry fee.

  • Available at Morisset, Mandalong, Cooranbong or Martinsville.

Safety considerations

  • Usual mandatory equipment of a whistle, space blanket and compression bandage apply.
  • There are cliffs, waterfalls and canyons on the map. Not all tracks are marked on the map. Some tracks are overgrown.
  • The good news is that leeches become much less active in winter and you may come across none at the event. In case the organisers will supply repellent for applying to shoes and socks before the start. Gaiters also recommended.
  • Course setters have tried to minimise or steer clear of the flora hazard of lawyer vine that has constructed its own walled traps to ensnare its prey of setters or competitors.
  • Event organisers plan to have a first aid-qualified volunteer on site.
  • Event organisers plan to have a safety patrol vehicle to monitor course tracks.

Final instructions

These will be released on this event page on 20th July. The final details will include further details on the location, event day, and much more.

In the meantime, you can check out the Learning Centre for advice on what gear to bring, what to expect at a bush event, and other information.

What is rogaining?

A fun team sport, navigating using map, compass and clues to visit as many checkpoints as possible within the time limit. It’s a “choose your own adventure” experience in outdoor environments where teams explore the course for as much or as little of the allocated time as they like.

Our sport is for all ages and fitness levels, from families walking with small children through to bushwalkers and runners. Rogaining encourages the development of strategy and navigational skills, fitness, and the ability to work in a team.

For more information, check out the Learning Centre.
