Get your head torches ready to explore the suburbs of Eastwood and Carlingford at this year’s Nightgaine!

Both the 3-hour and 5-hour events are suitable for all levels of experience. Whether it’s your first night event or you are an experienced competitor, the course provides a nice opportunity to hone your nocturnal navigation skills close to civilisation with a mix of streets, parks and trails.

Explore the beautiful pockets of remnant blue gum high forest along Terrys Creek and The Ponds Creek. These suburban sanctuaries are contrasted with the hustle-and-bustle of Eastwood’s Saturday night markets. For those venturing further westward, more tranquil walking trails and waterfalls await at Vineyard Creek and Hunts Creeks. The course will keep to marked trails as we pass through sensitive wildlife areas.

Start times are an hour earlier than usual mainly because the HH (Epping Rotary Community Hall) is near a quiet neighbourhood. The extra hour of light also adds an element to route planning and enhances some of the course scenery. The start/finish times are also more friendly for families and novices.

Hamish Mackie is producing another nicely detailed urban map and Steve Ryan is setting the course which will provide a physical and mental workout with plenty of route choices to ponder.
