Paddy Pallin 6 hr 18th June

Entries close next Monday, 12th June at midnight here...

We are really excited to announce that this year's Paddy Pallin Rogaine will be held at "Arthursleigh", a large sheep-grazing farm owned by Sydney University, near Big Hill and Marulan in the Southern Highlands. The sheep have kindly offered their shearing shed for our Hash House.

Due to the lack of camping on Saturday night we've pushed back the start time to 09:30am, just to allow you more time on Sunday morning to get there.

The course is not all open paddocks and fences. Significant sections include stunning open bushland and extended river pools on the Wollondilly River. The landform switches between granite outcrops and metamorphic spur-gully which should entertain all navigators. Orienteers may know some of the country - the recent NSW Long Championships were on Arthursleigh – but this rogaine will take you to places that are off the O-maps.

The Paddy Pallin Rogaine is our most popular event of the year, with an average of over 500 participants, gifts provided by the Paddy Pallin organisation, and lots of warm food at the end to compensate for any winter weather. Paddy initiated this event in 1964 to improve the navigation skill of bushwalkers, well before orienteering and rogaining emerged. We hope you can join us in the sharing shed, for a special area and a special day.

The course features extensive farmland, stunning open bush land and extended river pools. There is a vast variety of fences, but, many of the paddocks are large enough to contain several controls and both the bush tracts and the river frontage are essentially fence free. The land form switches between granite outcrops and metamorphic spur-gully which should entertain all navigators.

Karst Irony Autumngaine (6/12h) has been run and won.

This year the Autumngaine 12/6 hour was held at Bungonia Caves. The event was great fun with lots of controls on offer and many controls set on spectacular lookouts.

Congratulations to our 12 hour winners Ronnie Taib and David Williams with a massive 5,030 points and also to our 6 hour winners Fergus Macleod and Pip Knowler with 2,080 points.

  • You can see the all the results here...
  • You can check out the photos here...
  • You can examine out your opponent's routes and upload your own GPX to Routegadget here...
  • You can read Chris Stevenson's account and other's comments about the event here...
  • And you can also check the lost property here...

The 12 Hour winners, Ronnie and David, happy before the start. They were still happy 5,030 points later, just two 10-pointers short of getting all the controls.

Don't forget our branding competition

President Trev is threatening to use his image as our logo if we do not get any good entries to our competition. Those of us who have to look at Trev across the Committee table know that's not a good thing, so get designing!

With nearly 4,000 rogainers on our mailing list, we know there are some brilliant graphic designers, artists and advertisers out there who love rogaining.

Our logo has been around for a few years and we reckon it's time for something new. Here’s a sample of what we do now:

The brief is to create a new logo for NSW Rogaining that we can use on promotional material, on maps, even on the mugs for winning teams at our events. There's some minor restrictions:

  • 185mm wide x 57mm high (for mugs)
  • Maximum of 4 colours (excluding white)
  • No copyright issues

Get creative, make it funny, clever, quirky, and send your designs to: logo@nswrogaining.org by our deadline of 5pm Monday 17th July, 2017. Judging will take place at the Committee meeting the following evening. We’d like to announce the new design at the Lake Macquarie Rogaine on August 5th, with the winner receiving TWO free entries to a rogaine in the next 12 months - you can shout your team mate.

Call for Volunteers

No Volunteers = No Rogaines. It’s pretty simple.

Volunteering is a great way to ensure the continual running of quality NSWRA events. If you think you can spare a few hours before, during or after an event please see the volunteers calendar and if you’d like to put your hand up, or know more about roles, please get in touch with Graham.

“My fellow rogainers: ask not what your rogaining association can do for you – ask what you can do for your rogaining association.”
- Graham Field, NSWRA Volunteer Coordinator
