Description:

This year the Autumngaine 12/6-hour is in the Southern Highlands at Bungonia Caves, featuring spectacular scenery and easy walking on the tops, big valleys and limestone for the adventurous, and open forest throughout.

A comfortable Hash House site is available for campers but there are space constraints that will force us to limit 12-hour entries to 150 people. There won't be any limit on 6-hour participants and everyone can help by limiting the number of vehicles you bring to the site.

Another change is that we will start the competition from 11AM (rather than noon). This will provide an extra hour of daylight for the 12-hour teams, and make it easier for 6-hour teams to drive home after their excursion and dinner.

Sheep talk

Did you know that Bungonia is part of NSW rogaining history? The first occasion where NSW held the Australian Rogaining Championships was at Bungonia village in Sep-1984, a mere 33 years ago. In the vicinity since then we’ve run the NSW Champs in Oct-2001 and the 12-hour Autumngaine in May-2013. No doubt there’s a handful of rogainers who have participated in all of those events.

Of those previous explorations, only the 2001 24-hour included the Caves, and they were on the northern perimeter of the course. So this year will be different in that we are focussing on the area in the north near the caves. Our course setter, Ian Cross, has long practical experience in the Park, having run numerous navigational training courses nearby.

We hope you can participate in our creation, enjoy the scenery and the challenges. It’s an easy 2-hour drive to the Hash House from Liverpool, and less than 90 minutes from Canberra Civic.

Did you know that this year's Autumngaine and Paddy Pallin events have something in common, other than being great rogaining events? They are both subject to works by Conrad Martens. His painting of "Artursleigh" is here... and his sketch of Bungonia is here....
