G'day Rogainers,
Next Event – Socialgaine Rogaine 6hr (9.30 am - 3.30pm): Sunday 16 November 2014
Entries will open soon, here.
This year’s Socialgaine will be held in Sydney’s Northern Beaches. It will include bushland trails, parks, streets and maybe even a beach.
ACTRA - Entries close very soon for the Spring Rogaine
Entries are now open for the ACTRA Spring 6/12 Hour Rogaine on 18 October 2014. Set in the beautiful Bournda National Park, situated on the NSW south coast between Tathra and Tura Beach, the area was last used for an ACTRA rogaine eight years ago. The setters have so far seen a range of wildlife from kangaroos, possums and echidnas, and are keeping an eye out for deer that apparently now roam in the national park.

Volunteers Required
Did you know that we regularly struggle to find volunteers to stage our Rogaine events? We need your help!
If you're a regular and you haven't volunteered at one of our events in the last 2 years, please lend a hand in 2015. Check here for information on many of the jobs associated with organising a rogaine.
Volunteering is rewarding and a great way to get in some navigation practice if you choose to help set, vet or collect flags, and a great option if you can't make the event. There are also many roles, such as on the day help at registration that won't stop you from participating in the event.
Richard and Neil are pulling together the Socialgaine course for November 16 on Sydney's northern beaches. Help is still needed: Event coordinator, vetters, flag hangers and retrievers, and on the day helpers with registration.
Ted is already planning an exciting Metrogaine course for February 28 in the Pennant Hills area
Help needed: Event coordinator, flag retrievers, on the day helpers with registration.
We are also hosting the Australasian Rogaining Championships on 10-11 October 2015.
This event will be big and attract Rogainers from afar. It’s also a chance for teams to practice before the World Championships near Alice Springs in 2016. Gill is forming the organising team, and there will be extra roles to ensure a fantastic event, such as ARC2015 web support, transport coordinator, merchandise and trophy design and of course the usual roles.
The event will be around 3 hours from Sydney...we are just finalising exact location. If you are keen to help out please contact Gill Fowler
So if you have been thinking about helping out for a while, check our vacancies list on the website and contact Ian Dempsey. We even take advance bookings!
Spring Rogaine (incorporating the NSW Championships), 8hr & 24hr: Saturday 13-14 September 2014
Results, here.
The 2014 Spring Rogaine was on the Newnes Plateau, north of Lithgow. This beautiful rogaining country gently undulates between forest and creeks, and provides stunning views on surrounding rock pagoda formations. The vegetation is mostly open and fast, and the terrain should provided navigation challenges for all levels of participants, in both the 8 and 24 hours events.
Congratulations to the overall winning team of David Baldwin, Thomas Brazier and Julie Quinn
Many thanks to Michael Watts and his team of volunteers for putting on yet another great event.
Vale Cliff Harris
With great sadness we wish to acknowledge Cliff Harris who died on the 22nd of July this year.
Cliff was a vital member of the Shoalhaven SES, he worked at Shoalhaven Council, led trips with Shoalhaven Bushwalkers and was a regular rogainer, with a special passion for the Navshield Wilderness Rescue and his SES team. (Brett Davis wrote a pleasant article about Cliff for the Shoalhaven Bushwalkers, http://www.shoalhavenbushwalkers.org.au/index.html).
Cliff had a passion for off-track exploration and preferred to take the longer option: the 24-hour rogaine, the 29-hour Navshield, the early-start daywalk.
He has competed in most NSW Rogaining Champs in the last decade. He and Brad Davis were in the top ten in the 2012 and 2013 Championships and, after just turning 55, he was targeting the supervets trophy at the Newnes Plateau event this year. Cliff led the team who set the course for the 2009 Paddy Pallin rogaine at Coolendel, and after the 2008 Bendalong Champs turned the flag collection into an SES training event.
Sadly, less than three weeks after he and his SES team came 2nd in this year's Navshield, Cliff died from a virulent form of leukaemia. Our respect and thoughts are with his wife Michelle, children Breanna and Cooper, and other family and friends in the Shoalhaven community.
