Lake Macquarie 6/12 Hour and NSW Championships - Next Saturday

Entries close Monday 27th July at Midnight

The annual 6/12 hour event in the Watagan Mountains west of Newcastle is on Saturday 1st August. You can expect a broad mixture of terrain, scenic views, beautiful rainforest, pristine creeks, friendly fauna and an extensive track network to allow competitors the option of avoiding some of the navigation through dense vegetation.

For those who want an enjoyable day's bushwalking, both the 6hr and 12 hr events start at midday and the event is only 2 hrs drive from Sydney CBD. Aside from seeing the beautiful views, you can enjoy the on course tea and damper stop and then back up for a full meal when you get back to the hash house.

In a first for NSW Rogaining we have assigned the NSW Championships to the 12-hour Lake Macquarie event. This is to avoid confusion with our 24-hour event in October where NSWRA are hosting the Australian Championships. This may be your opportunity to join the famous names on the NSW Champs trophies, and you only have to get out there for 12 hours.

We still have plenty of room for your team, so it is time to work the phones, get a team together, go on-line and enter and give yourself and friends a good workout in the Watagan Mountains next weekend.

2015 Australian Championships, 10-11th October

Entries are also open for the Australian Champs, currently being set in "great rogaining country" on the western side of the Blue Mountains. Don't be deterred by the imposing name. Anyone can enter the Aus Champs.

2016 Calendar

The Committee are still finalising the schedule of events for next year. The Metrogaine, Paddy Pallin and Lake Macquarie 12-hour are assigned, but we really need committed organisers & course setters for the Minigaine, NSW Champs and another 12 or 24-hour bush event of your choosing.

If you have an idea for an event or want to run your own event but don't know how, then talk to someone on the Committee. We have a lot of resources to assist and can help you put a team together to make your dream event a reality. Many of our experienced course setters, vetters and organisers find that arranging an event can be more rewarding than competing.

If you can help or have an idea for your own event then, please contact Dale at volunteers@nswrogaining.org, talk to someone on the Committee, or give Trevor a call on 0408 230 593 or events@nswrogaining.org.

ACTRA

Our colleagues in the ACT also have a a couple of events coming up.

2015 ACTRA 6 Hour Metrogaine - Sun 16th August 2015

'Belconnen and Beyond', a 6 hour metrogaine exploring Belconnen and some of the surrounding nature parks, will be held from 9:30am to 3:30pm on Sunday 16 August 2015. The Hash House will be centrally located at the Lake Ginninderra Sea Scout Hall. There'll be plenty of urban controls to suit beginners, plus some more challenging controls in the nature parks for the keener participants. Solo entries will be allowed for this event.

ACTRA 8 and 24 hour championships - 5-6 September 2015 - Go wild and go feral

The ACT 8 and 24 hour rogaining championships will be held about one hour south-east of Canberra at Wild Cattle Flat. Your team can go fully wild for 24 hours or just feral for 8 hours. The terrain varies from wide grassy flats to open forest with some challenging hills. The Hash House is centrally located and there is plenty of free camping courtesy of the local landowners. Easier navigation near the HH and some trickier controls for those venturing further out. Good practice for the Oz champs later in October.

Bring your marshmallows to toast on the fire! Rally the team and see you there for a wild weekend of feral fun.
