eNewsletter 54 - 11 September 2013
G'day Rogainers,
Spring Rogaine, 6hr & 24hr: 19-20 Oct 2013
(Incorporating NSW Championships)
The Putty Rogaine is nestled at the top of the Howes Valley about
an hour’s drive north of Windsor and under 2 hours from Newcastle.
The Hash house is at Dave Thurston's place which is the old
roadhouse on the Putty Road. The adjoining property is Chapman
Valley - 6,500 acres of private farm that now operates as a horse
riding school and has
been in the family since 1840.
6 hour competitors can expect a lovely ridge and valley loop/s that includes some great lookouts, wildflowers, old rusting relics and plenty of wild life.
The 24 hour competitors can choose 2 loops if they wish to return for a break or stay out and go hard.
Registrations are now open here.
6hr/12hr Lake Macquarie Rogaine: 17 August 2013
Many thanks to Bob Gilbert and his team for putting on another great event.
“The 22nd Annual Lake Macquarie Rogaine enjoyed good weather conditions as the 325 competitors tackled the typical steep and thick vegetation of the Watagan Mountains. The 94 teams in the 6 hour event were led home by team 28, David Ellis and Paul Olsen who scored a very impressive 910 points. The 41 teams in the 12 hour event were confronted with what appeared to be a gettable 1850 points on offer…” read more from Bob here.
Results, photos etc can be found here.
Socialgaine Date Change – Now 17 November
There has been more than one date floating around for the November Socialgaine, but the event is now confirmed for Sunday 17 November. The Woronoragaine will be held deep in the heart of the Shire and, while the organizers can’t promise that you will see Gollums or wizards, they can guarantee that you will have the chance to sample many kilometres of fantastic Sydney bush trails that you will almost certainly not have trodden before. Put it in your diary!
ACT 30th Rogaining Championships, 21-22 September 2013
ACTRA invites all NSWRA members to join them for the ACT Rogaining Championships in the Mt Clear/Naas River area of Namadgi National Park - about 1.5hours from Canberra. You can choose to do the 8hr event or the full 24hr event.
The course at an altitude of 1100-1400m. There is a beautiful mixture of grassy valleys, open eucalypt forest with a few rolling hills. The course has been set to avoid scrubby sections. Historic huts and old trails are a feature of the area. The course is suitable for rogainers of all abilities - easy closer to the hash house - yet challenging navigation further out. The full moon will be beaming and spring will be in the air. Put a spring in your step and come along to our 30th birthday party!
