eNewsletter 52  -  29 June 2013

G'day Rogainers,

6hr Paddy Pallin Rogaine, Glenbrook: 16 June 2013

Thanks to Michael Watts, Warwick Dougherty and their team of volunteers for putting on an excellent event at Glenbrook. Here is an excerpt from their report.

“On a bright, clear sunny Sunday 242 teams and 638 people ran, walked and ambled off into the bush for the 50th Paddy Pallin Winter 6 hour rogaine. It was great to see so many old and new faces happily gearing up for a lovely winter’s day ramble…”

Upcoming ACT Events

Entries are now open for the ACTRA Mid-Winter 4 hour event on 14 July. This year the event will take place in Tidbinbilla, 45 mins on from Canberra. Entries are only $15 per person (max $30 per family) thanks to a subsidy from the ACT Government. The course-setters have included some family-friendly checkpoints but this will also be a course to challenge those more experienced. Go to the ACTRA website to enter before 8 July.

Also, for those that may be in Canberra on 18 August - the 2013 Centenary Metrogaine and Cyclegaine will be taking in many of our national treasures. Come and help us celebrate Canberra's Centenary year!

Celebrating our Volunteers  -  Peter and Robyn Charlton

We are a father / daughter rogaining team from Lake Macquarie and together with our family have been involved in rogaining for 19 years. We enjoy the quality time together competing and setting rogaines. The volunteer jobs we have done have been parking supervisor, Hash house helper, Tea and Damper coordinator through to course setting and vetting.

We have met many wonderful people with years of rogaining experience that we share stories and adventures with (including the legendary Bert VanNetten). The fun part of setting and vetting a Lake Macquarie Rogaine is finding all the places a competitor should not go. The really fun part is finding the remote spur with stunning views or the beautiful creek bed that few footsteps have trod in. Sharing your finds with fellow rogainers is just as fun as competing.

Can you help us at a coming Rogaine?

We need the following volunteers to ensure we can stage our remaining 2013 events. Please contact Ian Dempsey if you can lend a hand.

NSW Rogaining Championships October 19/20 Putty Road NW of Sydney
We need flag hangers and flag collectors, as well as on the day helpers.

Socialgaine November 17 Heathcote, Sydney south
We need on the day helpers.
