Safety Officer's Report

The 2011 Paddy Pallin 6 hour rogaine was held at Belanglo State Forest on the Southern Highlands.  The course area was a mix of native and pine forest. It had a good track network throughout with plenty of distinct features on which to place controls. Most of the course was pleasantly open understory, with good walking and visibility.  The weather was kind, cool and overcast but no rain.

The Forum is open for you to have your say about this event, or indeed anything relating to rogaining.  It is a "blog" where you can read the postings by other people or post your own comments.  You can do this anonymously, all you have to give is an email address which is not published.  Click on the "nn Comments" link then scroll to the bottom.

Interested in the route of other teams?   "Route Gadget", hosted on Garingal Orienteers web site has a map of the event on which you can draw in your route and look at the other team's route.

If you Lost or Found anything at this or a previous event, have a look in the Viewing Room.  There are numerous unclaimed items and descriptions of lost items.

Donation to YHA

This event is run each year under an agreement with the Paddy Pallin organisation.  Part of the agreement says ...

A donation from the event shall be made for the benefit of a nominated beneficiary each year being one of a series of organisations which Paddy Pallin supported in his lifetime. The list of beneficiaries shall be:

  • Bushwalking Federation Search and Rescue
  • NSW Scout Association
  • YHA NSW
  • Kosciuzsko Huts Association
  • National Parks Association

This year the donation was made to YHA Ltd.  Read here the response from Julian Ledger, the CEO of YHA Ltd. In it he tells us how the money will be used and also gives an interesting run down of the link between Paddy Pallin the man and YHA.

The 1st Waitara Scout Group presented an award for the highest scoring junior team.  1st Waitara Scouts have been our caterers at Paddy Pallin rogaines for many years. They say the award has been a group effort and is in keeping with Scouts and rogaining.
