Description
The Dharug Dreamtime 6 hour and 12 hour rogaine was held on Saturday 2nd May in Dharug National Park near Gunderman on the northern side of the Hawkesbury River, not far from Wiseman's Ferry. The rain was incessant, but that didn't dampen anyone's spirits.
The Dharug NP encompasses extraordinary scenic and rugged terrain that is characterised by a web of bush covered ridges and valleys. While much of the course was within wilderness, rogaine controls were set to take advantage of national park walking trails, fire trails and roads as well as ridgelines which often have informal trails beaten by students doing the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
This part of the Dharug NP appears largely untouched since the arrival of European civilisation and its pristine natural environment features extensive aboriginal carvings, expansive views, bold rock formations, and delightful native plants. Course Setters and Vetters, Martin Dearnley, Graham Field, Lynn Dabbs, Kevin Williams and Tristan White planned a course to suit novices and experts alike, offering a full range of navigational and course setting challenges.
