Organiser's Report

Sunshine, a cool sea breeze and 300 participants of all ages ensured Socialgaine 2012 at Umina Beach was a delightful and happy event. The course allowed participants to choose between challenging terrain in the national park punctuated by amazing views from the hilltops, or level ground beside beautiful beaches and sparkling blue water. Many teams enjoyed ice creams and drinks from the many shops that dotted the course.

The easy terrain allowed teams to cover greater distances with some new teams exceeding 25 kms in the 6 hours. The course offered a possible 1810 points across a 43 checkpoints and was won by Richard Banks and Richard Green on 1730 points slightly ahead of Joel Mackay and Jonathan Worswick on 1660, and Rod Cutler and Michael Miles on 1600. A special congratulations is offered to the 25% of teams who reached 1,000points and above.

A special mention goes to the owner of a house in Homan Close who removed his letterbox once he realised it featured in our rogaine as Checkpoint 46.

Prizes were awarded for category winners and others with special achievements such as the largest blister, or the youngest walking child to score more than 100 points. The volunteers who ran the event enjoyed the whole experience and recommend others have a go in the future. It is fair to say we were as exhausted and satisfied as the participants.

Note about results

As is usual with a "Q & A" type event like this one, there were a number of controls where the answer was not clearly defined.  Controls 23, 31 & 81 had two possible answers.  We have attempted to credit you with the points for every control you visited.  If you got to control 46 after the feature was removed you may have missed being credited with the points.  Please check your "Individual Team" sheets and if you think we have missed a control you visited send me an email with the details.  All team sheets are now available.

If everything goes according to plan, from now on we will be using NavLight elecronic scoring for all events.  So this will be the last event using Q & A for scoring.

If you do not wish to have your name appear in results published on this web site, write to Graeme Cooper.
