Entries close Monday and the event is filling fast

Stop press: The entry cap for this event is 550. Already 446 rogainers have entered, making this potentially one of the biggest Paddy Pallin events in recent years. Last year this event sold out so don't assume you can enter at the last minute!

We’re going back to Glenbrook for the first time since 2013 (which was also a Paddy Pallin event). The “Gateway to the Mountains” is also a great intro to the sport, as well as a welcome challenge for veterans. The off-track will be a mix of gentle open forest, rock platforms, and bouldery creeks – but also some bushfire regrowth that will fight back against the unwary. The trails themselves will also not disappoint, with some of the most iconic walking trails and lookouts approximately one hour from Sydney.

Highlights include: lookouts over the Nepean river, Emu Plains, & Mt. Portal; Euroka creek & Glenbrook Causeway; and Red hands cave & stone tool grinding grooves.

Location: The rogaine will commence at the Euroka campground, Glenbrook area in the Blue Mountains National Park, approximately one hour from Sydney.

PLEASE NOTE: The National Park entry will be closed from 6:00pm on Saturday night and will not reopen until 06:45am Sunday morning, so there will be no vehicle access for late arrivals. Calling out for more Paddy Pallin volunteers

Volunteer jackets

The annual Paddy Pallin rogaine is our most popular event of the year and we could always do with a few extra helpers. At this stage we still need a couple more flag hangers beforehand plus a few more general helpers on the day, and more flag collectors afterwards.

Note that flag collectors can still participate in the event.

For more details drop an email to Robin, our Volunteer Coordinator - volunteer@nswrogaining.org, or register online.

(Anyone who volunteers at a NSW rogaine earns reward points towards a future free entry. Earn 100 points and receive a free entry voucher. For more info see the volunteer page on the website.)

and THANKS!

Entries will open soon

Come and join us for a major milestone in NSW rogaining!

This year's NSW Champs will be our 250th official rogaine in NSW. The event also incorporates the 33rd Lake Macquarie rogaine. Fittingly, this rogaine will feature a traditional 24-hour bush course, but it will also be supplemented by our ever-popular 6-hour and 15-in-24-hour options. Most of the map will incorporate the Olney and Watagan State Forests, only a 1hr 45min drive up the freeway from Sydney.

The course will feature a relatively level family friendly section that will dance through mature pines with an understory of wildflowers. There'll be multitudes of tracks around the start location. You will see wallabies, wombats, bandicoots, and especially goannas everywhere. The longer event options will incorporate several awesome plummeting waterfalls, water junctions, gullies of towering blue gums and eucalypt forest, and deeply seated pockets of untouched remnant rainforest.

You'll be zigzaging areas of the Great North Walk.

There will be plenty of camping nearby on the Friday and Saturday nights (camping fees included in entry), and the easily accessible Hash House will have toilets and drinking water.

Bring the family and make a weekend of the adventure, particularly those who enjoy our traditional Watagans/Lake Macquarie rogaines.

The entry fee covers dinner Saturday, breakfast and lunch on Sunday and, of course, the iconic all-night Lake Mac "Tea and Damper"!

Rogaining workshop success

Workshop winners

Contributed by Julian Ledger

The indefatigable Ted Woodley organised a rogaining workshop for members of the Bush Club and the National Parks Association. This comprised required pre reading by participants, two hours of theory (in a Lane Cove National Park picnic shelter) lead by Ted, Robin Cameron and Chris Stevenson, followed by a two-hour minigaine using MapRun. There were 17 participants who divided into four teams with a trainer supporting each. Julian Ledger joined for this part.

Despite damp conditions there was a heap of enthusiasm, spirits were high and compass bearings and pace counting was practiced along the way. The winning team showing off their prize mugs were Annie Measday, Nikki Baker and Sonia Webster (shadowed by Chris Stevenson). They scored a creditable 440 points covering about 6 km. Look out for them at an upcoming rogaine.
